Kent Hovind Arrested

From the
Pensacola News Journal:

Pensacola evangelist who owns the defunct Dinosaur Adventure Land in Pensacola was arrested Thursday on 58 federal charges, including failing to pay $473,818 in employee-related taxes and making threats against investigators.

Of the 58 charges, 44 were filed against Kent Hovind and his wife, Jo, for evading bank reporting requirements as they withdrew $430,500 from AmSouth Bank between July 20, 2001, and Aug. 9, 2002. […]

The indictment alleges Kent Hovind paid his employees in cash and labeled them “missionaries” to avoid payroll tax and FICA requirements. […]

The indictment also says the Hovinds’ made cash withdrawals from AmSouth Bank in a manner that evaded federal requirements for reporting cash transactions.

The withdrawals were for $9,500 or $9,600, just below the $10,000 starting point for reporting cash transactions. […]

Over Kent Hovind’s protests, the judge took away his passport and guns Hovind claimed belonged to his church.

Hovind argued that he needs his passport to continue his evangelism work. He said “thousands and thousands” are waiting to hear him preach in South Africa next month.

But Davis agreed with Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Heldmyer, who argued that “like-minded people” might secret Hovind away if he left the country.

Most americans have several credit cards and use those plasticcards to buy material things to satisfy their needs and desires…. BUT NOT ALL CREDIT CARD HOLDERS CAN PAY THEIR CREDIT CARD BILLS AND THOSE BILLS ACCUMULATE OVER THE YEARS… THEN THEY APPLY FOR BANKRUPTCY… THEN THE COURT NODS AND APPROVE THEIR APPLICATION FOR BANKRUPTCY AFTER SPENDING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS AND NOT BEING ABLE TO PAY UP!

WAKE UP AMERICA!!! THE IRS IS BEING MANIPULATED BY FORCES BEYOND the constitutionally mandated laws!

Dr. KENT HOVIND AND HIS WIFE WERE HARRASSED, MANHANDLED, AND INDICTED NOT BECAUSE OF TAX-EVASION! Dr. KENT HOVIND AND HIS WIFE WERE HARRASSED, MANHANDLED, AND INDICTED BECAUSE OF THEIR RELIGION!

What is the difference between a tax evader and a bankrupt missionary? A tax evader earns money from his profession and spends 100% of it on his materials needs and lusts and evades the IRS. A bankrupt missionary conducts FREE seminars on “GOD AS THE ALMIGHTY CREATOR OF MAN AND THE WHOLE UNIVERSE” and never get paid, never earn a penny, and spends his time, money, and life on PREACHING “GOD AS THE ALMIGHTY CREATOR OF MAN AND THE WHOLE UNIVERSE”.

DR. KENT HOVIND IS INNOCENT ! WAKE UP AMERICA ! DR. HOVIND IS A PROPHET IN YOUR MIDST ! COME JUDGMENT DAY, ALL OF YOU WHO SCOFF AT DR. HOVIND’S TEACHINGS SHALL FACE THE JUDGMENT SEAT OF CHRIST AND AMONG THOSE WHO WILL RULE WITH CHRIST WILL BE PREACHERS AND PROPHETS.

Let’s see… last month, Wesley Snipes was indicted for tax fraud, and accused of cheating the government of $12 million in taxes. How much you wanna bet, that he gets no jail time?
I also read that some deal has already been made, so Snipes can come back to the USA, and the FBI won’t touch him.
Wow! Treated like a STAR! What’s new?

I remembered reading something about paying taxes in America, and that is, it’s perfectly legal not to pay it! Something about the nation being a Republic! The only thing is, the public has been duped by the government. I think, I googled that once, to get that info.

What on Earth does being a republic have to do with whether or not citizens have to pay taxes? Are you sure you haven’t confused “republic” and “anarchy”?

And anyway, if it’s really legal not to pay income tax in the US, why do the people who keep arguing this in court keep losing? I have trouble imagining that every judge (you know, the people who are supposed to know the law) being in on this conspiracy, but what about juries, comprised of twelve average people and agreed upon by both attorneys?

I think you need to take a look at the facts and learn the distinction between “ought to be” and “is”.

Have you ever heard of a social contract? Hovind failed to pay half a million dollars in payroll taxes, money that could have been spent defending the country, funding hospitals, doing medical research to fight diseases, paying USDA inspectors to make sure your steak isn’t contaminated, build highway fences so your kids don’t get run over by a car, and all the myriad things that our taxes pay for.

    In short, he’s a freeloader.

What’s your point? That it’s okay not to pay taxes because they go to support something that you don’t understand and don’t approve of?

And if Hovind was engaging in civil disobedience, why didn’t he say so at the trial, instead of claiming that he didn’t understand the charges?

Kent hovind was giving half a millon dollars to who ever can give him real proof of evolution and everyone who came to him, kent proved them wrong

Bullshit. First of all, the alleged prize is $250,000, not half a million dollars.

Secondly, the challenge is phonier than a three-dollar bill. Hovind has said himself that to collect the prize, one would have to recreate the Big Bang in the lab. Besides, the terms of the challenge make it unfalsifiable (for instance, he wants proof that God could not have created the universe). Read the text of the challenge for the fine print that makes it impossible.

I could offer a similar challenge asking for proof that the Earth is round, and no one would be able to claim the prize.

sociey’s law? are you serious? the income tax law is a scam, because there is no law. pls find out how it was smuggled in as a ‘law’ back in 1913. i understand that paying taxes has been a norm, but why would anyone have to pay taxes on their own personal work. That’s complete BS. Im a Canadian and I fear for what is happening to the US, becuase i know that Canada will shortly follow the stupid BS emerging from the white house. get yourselves togather. if you want to continue paying taxes, which are hardly used for the public good, please be my guest, but dont expect others to follow in your footsteps. There is no law which states you have to pay income taxes. check out ‘Freedom to Facism’ (open your eyes to what is actually happening under your noses).
anyway, back to the topic of Mr. Hovind. He has offered anyone $250,000 to prove evolution, not one has steped up. I wonder why. Im not saying he’s correct in all his assumptions, but understand what a theory like evolution does to a society. We’re going to be treated in the same manner as animals, not that they dont have rights, but we’ve taken that away from them..guess who’s next?

Hovind’s $250,000 ‘challenge’ is, as has been pointed out numerous times before, including this thead which you obviously didn’t read before opening your flappy little pie hole, bullshit. Click on the blue (or whatever color your browser is configured to make links) ‘bullshit’ there to the left of this sentence and, don’t just read, comprehend.

Apparently you need a small reminder – you are Canadian, and that means you do not have to pay United States Income Tax. Hope that makes things better for you. If not, please feel free to STFU and DIAF.

Churces and missionaris are exepted from taxes. Yet evolution is supported by taxes. Evolutionary lie’s should be taken out of schools. In my opinion people who believe in eveolution are not scientists but Satanic evolutionists. Saying you dont understand evolutions is not a good argument because you have no solid facts but lies and false usumptions. God will judge this world. Actually, it is. It’s also a fact.

“Theory” in science basically means “explanation”. A really good explanation. So there’s the fact of evolution, which has been observed, and there’s the theory that explains how and why it happens.

    KV:

A fact? A fact that hasn’t been proven?

No, a fact that has been proven, over and over. The problem is that you don’t know what evolution is. The canonical definition of evolution is “allele frequency change in a population over generations”. Or, more simply, the change in the genetic makeup of a living population over generations. That’s all. “Evolution” does not involve the beginning of life, or the origin of the solar system or the universe, or whether there are any gods or not. If anyone told you it does, they were misleading you.

Viruses like HIV adapt to new environments, and to resist drugs. Bird beaks change size and shape in response to new environments and diets. Cuckoos adapt to parasitize new species of birds, and those birds in turn adapt to recognize cuckoo eggs and throw them out. Fish bred in captivity have drifted enough that when released back into the ocean, they no longer breed with the wild population. All of these things constitute evolution, and all of them have been observed.

Heck, even Answers in Genesis thinks evolution happens, and has happened in the past.

The theory of evolution provides a framework that explains the things we see today. “Theory” does not mean “wild-ass guess”, so stop claiming that it does.

I’d much rather live a life knowing that I’m going to a much better place after death

You don’t know that. You just believe it. Do you have any evidence that this belief is true?

don’t think pope is going to heaven

Neither do I. He’s not going to see the beer volcano and the stripper factory, either, and for the same reason.

My my, such…anger. Why so defensive?

Here’s a softball for you. Disprove, on this forum, in a scientific manner, a statement of fact that has been presented. There are plenty of threads to choose from; I suggest using those authored by ‘arensb’ as they are presented in a clear fashion and are backed up by external evidence that you can also validate as you pursue the chain. I’ll wait while you educate yourself on what “scientific manner” means.

Evolution tries to convince us that disorder (a big bang) happened and that now everything is improving (evolving) to something better. Also even evolutionary scientists will tell you that there is not one shred of proof of evolution. No missing link has ever been found. Those that were supposed to be missing links have all been proven to be mistakes or hoaxes. Have you studied up on it yourself or are you just believing what all those science teachers told you? ‘Cause they were wrong.

No, the second law of thermodynamics does not state that things ALWAYS go from order to disorder. In open systems that get energy from out side themselves like the earth getting energy from the sun, entropy can DECREASE on earth with a net gain of entropy on the sun.

“Evolution tries to convince us that disorder (a big bang) happened and that now everything is improving (evolving) to something better.”

Biological evolution has nothing to do with big bang cosmology , but because you lump all branches of science that contradict literal readings of genesis in with “evolution” you don’t understand that. Charles Darwin wasn’t an astronomer.

“Also even evolutionary scientists will tell you that there is not one shred of proof of evolution. No missing link has ever been found.”

No, actually they would show me the vast body of testable predictions and interconnecting evidence for evolution. And yeah dumbass transitional forms have be found in the fossil record. You are one ignorant moron!
